Hell ...

A female Scout asked the pope,

"If God forgives everybody, why does hell exist?"

The pope saying

"There was a very proud angel, very proud, very intelligent, and he was envious of God.  He was envious of God. He wanted God's place. And God wanted to forgive him, but he said, 'I don't need your forgiveness. I am good enough!'"

"This is hell: It is telling God, 'You take care of yourself because I'll take care of myself.' They don't send you to hell, you go there because you choose to be there. Hell is wanting to be distant from God because I do not want God's love. This is hell. Do you understand?"

한 스카우트 소녀가 교황에게 물었다.

"하느님은 모든 이들을 용서해준다는 왜 지옥은 있는거죠?"

교황은 대답했다.

"매우 교만하고도 매우 똑똑한 한 천사가 있었다. 천사는 하느님을 시기하며 하느님의 자리를 원했단다. 하느님이 그 천사를 용서하려고 했지만 그 천사는 '나는 당신의 용서가 필요하지 않다. 난 충분히 선한 존재이다.' 라고 말했단다.

그게 바로 지옥이란다. 하느님 당신 스스로 잘 살피세요. 난 내가 알아서 하겠다며 하느님에게 외치는 것 말이다. 지옥은 누군가 보내는 것이 아니라 스스로 걸어 들어가는 것이란다. 왜냐하면 너 스스로 선택했기 때문이지. 지옥은 하느님의 사랑이 필요없다고 하느님으로부터 멀어지려는 것이란다. 이것이 지옥이란다. 알겠니?"
